Blog Post #10; Chapter Ending

Hi everyone! I just wanted to state how incredibly grateful I am to have had the opportunity to take this class. This course was extremely informative and eye opening considering all of the critical issues we discussed. Not only do I believe that this class will help me to be the best teacher I could be, but I also believe it helped me become a more understanding person as a whole. I think all of us have had some sort of background knowledge on the topics we discussed, but getting more into them and really getting a better understanding of each issue has really been eye opening. When I am eventually a teacher, I am always going to be thinking back on this class and using the knowledge I gained here to make myself the best teacher I can be for my students. The world is always changing, and we need to be able to keep up. One of my favorite quotes is "be the change you want to see in the world." I think this is a super relevant quote and can relate back on this class. As we have high hopes for the future, we must put in effort to make changes, we cannot just sit back and wait for it to happen. I am so thankful for all that I have learned in this course and I surely will be using all of the information I took in and use it in my classroom. Thank you for a great semester everyone! I wish you all the best on your future endeavors and enjoy your summer!

  1. Hi Jillian!
I love your response to our final closing chapter of this class. I completely agree that more people should be required or inspired to take this class. I also felt that I knew a little about every topic we learned but I was glad I was able to go into more depth within the different topics. I am also going for a degree in teaching middle school and high school students and I think that many of the lessons I have learned in this class I will always remember. It is important for teachers to always be learning especially as our society continues to develop. Mental health awareness is so drastically important for teachers to understand because such a large percentage of students struggle with the issue. When teachers are more knowledgeable on the issue of Mental Health it begins to create a safe space inside the classroom where the students feel heard and seen. It is our duty as future teachers to not only educate our students but to provide the best social place to learn in. I appreciate in your video how you tell the audience your desires to not only be an adult figure for your students but to always be there for them and always have their back. That is very important for all teachers to have that type of connection with their students. Being knowledgeable on all these topics, such as mental health awareness and bullying turns a good teacher into a great teacher. A teacher who feels more like a real person rather than a superior figure just in the student's life to lecture their students. The important topics that were discussed throughout our class are topics I will continue to learn about to ensure a positive classroom environment once I become a teacher.
